A resounding call for a Future Generations Act

In September 2025 we launched the Tomorrow Together campaign with a discussion document at Parliament, hosted by the youngest MPs of National, Labour, Te Pāti Māori, and the Greens, alongside former Prime Ministers Jim Bolger and Sir Geoffrey Palmer.

The discussion document outlined existing work in future generations thinking, both in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. It put forward various policy levers; painted a picture of how the Act could work in practice; and what wider changes would help embed intergenerational fairness across our political, economic, and social systems.

Most importantly, the discussion document was designed to spark conversations across Aotearoa about what it would really mean to put future generations at the heart of our decision-making.

This report shares the feedback we heard from 100+ people through workshops, submissions and meetings held between 2025 and 2026.

We heard a resounding call for a Future Generations Act for Aotearoa New Zealand.
